400 Naxals ambushed safety personnel with heavy gunfire in Chhattisgarh: Sources

No less than 22 personnel have been killed and 30 others injured, official sources stated on Sunday

New Delhi/Raipur: A bunch of an estimated 400 Maoists had ambushed safety personnel who had been half of a giant contingent deployed for a particular operation, resulting in the killing of not less than 22 personnel and accidents to 30 others, official sources stated on Sunday.

They stated the contingent of about 1,500 troops drawn from CRPF’S specialised jungle warfare unit CoBRA, some groups from its common battalions, a unit of its Bastariya battalion, the Chhattisgarh Police affiliated District Reserve Guard (DRG) and others had launched a search and destroy operation alongside the border of Bijapur-Sukma district round midday after they received inputs of some Maoists presence within the space.

One other officer posted in Chhattisgarh stated the operation was being monitored by two Inspector Basic (IG) rank officers of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Pressure from Jagdalpur in Bastar.

“The rescue choppers couldn’t land within the ambush space round 2 PM once they had been despatched for a casualty evacuation mission as a heavy change of firing was happening. The helicopter landed solely round 5 PM to select up the casualties,” one other officer stated.

Out of the overall 22 fatalities, the CRPF has misplaced eight males out of which seven are CoBRA commandos whereas one personnel is from the Bastariya battalion.

A CRPF Inspector remains to be lacking, they stated.

 

Officers stated whereas most safety forces personnel had been killed on account of bullet pictures, one is suspected to have fainted and later died on account of dehydration and different points.

“The safety forces personnel, particularly CoBRA commandos fought very bravely and ensured that the Naxals couldn’t delay the ambush regardless of being better off,” the officer stated.

The safety personnel took guard in opposition to massive timber and stored firing until they ran out of ammunition, he added.
