Sir Keir Starmer wrote to Muslim organisations in Batley and Spen at the moment reassuring them of his “gratitude and appreciation” for the “steadfast and enduring help” from the Muslim group, which he says “has been, and at all times shall be, essential to the Labour celebration”.
In response to an open letter revealed final Wednesday from representatives from mosques and Muslim organisations, which acknowledged that their “votes and voices have been taken without any consideration” by the celebration, Starmer acknowledged “each vote should at all times be earned”.
The letter requested for a direct pledge to deal with the rising tide of Islamophobia, a transparent assertion on Labour’s place on Palestinian statehood and help for a full arms embargo in opposition to Israel in response from continued help for the celebration.
Starmer’s response acknowledged that the problems have been of “utmost significance”, pledging to “proceed to do every thing in [his] energy” to demand motion from the federal government on anti-Muslim hate crime, referencing the recently-published report on Islamophobia with the Conservative celebration.
In reference to Boris Johnson’s offensive feedback about Muslim ladies, Starmer wrote:
The prime minister’s non-apology is frankly offensive in itself; I’ll proceed to name for an unequivocal apology and ask what steps he’ll take to deal with Islamophobia inside his personal ranks.
Starmer’s letter reiterated his celebration’s help for a two-state answer “the place an unbiased Palestinian state can thrive alongside a protected and safe Israel”, underlining that Labour’s coverage place had not modified.
In reference to a report from the Labour Muslim Community revealed final October on Islamophobia throughout the Labour celebration, Starmer mentioned the findings have been “stark and regarding”. He went on: “I take this extremely severely and I’ll do every thing in my energy to root out Islamophobia in our celebration.”
Amid fears that many disillusioned Muslim voters will swap help from Labour within the byelection, Starmer urged voters to help Kim Leadbeater, the celebration’s candidate. He mentioned:

A current ballot from Survation confirmed the Conservatives on target to win the seat at 47%, with Labour six proportion factors behind. The ballot put George Galloway, whose marketing campaign is concentrated on ousting Starmer, on 6%.
