LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to maneuver extra ladies and younger girls out of probation camps and halls.
Supervisors Hilda Solis and Janice Hahn co-authored the movement calling for the board to behave extra aggressively by implementing a plan centered on reducing the variety of ladies and younger girls imprisoned in county juvenile halls.

As of final week, 346 individuals have been imprisoned in county juvenile halls of camps, solely 35 of them have been younger girls or ladies. In accordance with Solis, many of those younger girls and ladies are victims of home violence sexual, bodily, and psychological abuse or trafficking.

“On a nationwide scale, younger girls and ladies are disproportionately affected by home violence. And as we see on the grownup aspect of incarceration, the setting and surroundings of camps and halls aren’t conducive of therapeutic and thriving,” Solis stated. “By decarcerating this inhabitants, in a secure, evidence-based and trauma-informed method, it is not going to solely preserve public security on the forefront, but additionally the wants and well-being of the affected youth and their households.”

The board requested employees from varied county places of work together with the general public defender’s workplace, probation well being and psychological well being, to plan a plan to guage people and determine what assets they want if launched from detention.
