  • The DOJ desires a DC choose to reject Steve Bannon’s ask to delay his contempt-of-Congress trial.

  • The felony trial is about to start on July 18, after Bannon rejected January 6 probe subpoenas.

  • Bannon had argued the January 6 hearings would unfairly prejudice the course of his trial.

The Division of Justice requested a DC choose on Friday to reject Trump ally Steve Bannon’s request to delay his contempt-of-Congress trial, arguing that the January 6 hearings haven’t revolved round him to the purpose of distraction.

On Wednesday, Bannon’s attorneys requested a DC choose to delay his July 18 trial, citing a “media blitz” from the general public January 6 committee hearings and saying the request was “as a result of unprecedented stage of prejudicial pretrial publicity.”

DOJ attorneys stated that Bannon is just not as standard as he thinks he’s.

“The Defendant’s movement provides the misunderstanding — by means of basic statistics concerning the quantity of viewership of the Committee’s hearings and total media protection of the Committee’s hearings — that the entire Committee’s hearings and the attendant media protection is about him,” DOJ attorneys wrote in a submitting on Friday. “The reality is simply the alternative — the Defendant has barely been talked about within the Committee’s hearings or the ensuing media protection of them.”

Bannon was indicted by a federal grand jury in November 2021 on two counts of contempt of Congress, after refusing to have interaction with a subpoena from the January 6 committee. His felony trial might line up with the January 6 hearings if no delay is granted.

He pleaded not responsible on the time and argued that the committee wanted to kind out which supplies could be restricted attributable to former President Donald Trump’s govt privilege earlier than he would comply.

Attorneys representing Bannon didn’t instantly reply to Insider’s request for remark.
