Gujarat BJP MLA Raghavji Patel convicted in rioting case, will get 6-month sentence

JAMNAGAR: A Gujarat courtroom has sentenced BJP MLA Raghavji Patel and 4 others to 6 months’ imprisonment in a case of vandalism and rioting at a authorities hospital in Jamnagar district in 2007.

Patel was a Congress MLA when the incident befell in August 2007.

The courtroom had earlier rejected the federal government’s plea to withdraw the case in opposition to Patel after he joined the ruling BJP, Bhuria stated.

On August 10, 2007, a case was lodged at Dhrol police station right here in opposition to eight individuals below IPC sections for illegal meeting, rioting, assault or felony pressure to discourage a public servant from performing his responsibility, injury to public property, amongst others, and the Prevention of Harm to Public Property Act.

On Tuesday, the courtroom convicted Raghavji Patel, Narendrasinh Jadeja, Jitu Shrimali, Jayesh Bhatt and Karansinh Jadeja have been convicted, whereas three others – Sabbir Chawda, Pacha Varu and Lagdhirsinh Jadeja – have been acquitted for need of proof in opposition to them, Bhuria stated.

Patel received from the Jamnagar (rural) seat on Congress’s ticket within the state Meeting election in December 2017, and later resigned as legislator to affix the BJP.

He contested the 2019 Meeting by-election as a BJP candidate from the identical seat and received.
