Gas treatment at Metelinskoye
Bashneft has commissioned a permeate-processing unit at the Meteli gas-treatment complex in Russia’s Republic of Bashkortostan. The launch ceremony took place in Ufa on May 21, 2024. The unit is designed to process 17.5 million cubic metres annually of sour gas arising from natural-gas and associated-petroleum-gas purification.
The complex operates in the Duvansky district at the Metelinskoye field. Launch figures put useful associated-gas utilisation at 96.5%, compared with 95.1% in 2020. Part of the treated mixture supplies consumers; another part fuels the Meteli gas-piston power station.

Electricity and gas supply
The power station has 12 MW of installed capacity. Company launch materials put annual electricity production above 75 million kWh. The ceremony coincided with the Russian Petrochemical Forum and the 32nd Gas. Oil. Technologies exhibition. Interfax
Earlier use of associated gas
Bashneft’s gas-fuelled generation programme predates the new processing unit. In May 2023, the company disclosed that Bashneft-Dobycha had used more than 6 million cubic metres of associated petroleum gas for electricity generation during 2022. Its generating portfolio included three power plants operating exclusively on associated gas.

Those plants supplied oil and gas production facilities in areas with limited electricity availability or far from existing infrastructure. The company put the cost of electricity from its own power stations at 21% below external suppliers’ tariffs. Bashneft-Dobycha had been implementing a targeted programme to increase associated-gas utilisation since 2012. Rosneft’s May 2023 disclosure
Cooling-system modernisation
Meteli had also undergone an earlier equipment upgrade. By Jan 12, 2021, Bashneft had completed replacement of the station’s old coolers with more modern, higher-performance equipment. The company expected that modernisation to bring an additional 750,000 cubic metres of associated gas into useful consumption each year.
The 2021 modernisation announcement set out the following operating and financial expectations for the power station:
- a 21% increase in power-generating capability;
- daily electricity supply of 199.2 MWh for production needs;
- approximately 19 million rubles in annual savings from additional in-house generation.
At that time, Bashneft-Dobycha operated four power plants across Bashkortostan, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra and Orenburg Region. Together with two reserve diesel stations, their installed capacity totalled 25.5 MW. Meteli accounted for 47% of the enterprise’s own electricity generation following the upgrade. These portfolio figures and expected savings relate to the earlier modernisation programme. Bashinform’s January 2021 coverage
