Amprius Technologies has entered a manufacturing agreement with Nanotech Energy to expand U.S. production of silicon-anode battery cells. Nanotech is the company's first U.S. manufacturing partner, joining a contract production network that serves commercial, industrial and defense applications.

Amprius maintains its headquarters and a pilot facility in Fremont, California. Before the Nanotech agreement, its contract manufacturing arrangements were outside the United States. The new partnership adds a domestic production route alongside those overseas relationships.

Silicon-anode cell manufacturing

The companies announced the partnership on Feb 3, 2026, following several months of work on the design and manufacturing of Amprius' SA128 cell. Its specified characteristics are:

  • 21700 cylindrical format;
  • 6.8 amp-hour capacity;
  • 320 watt-hours per kilogram energy density.

Nanotech operates a manufacturing facility in California and has produced and shipped 18650 and 21700 cylindrical lithium-ion cells for commercial and industrial applications since late 2024. The partnership extends Amprius' manufacturing-light model through a U.S.-based contract producer.

Amprius' Fremont operation includes an R&D laboratory and pilot manufacturing for silicon anodes and cells. The company uses contract manufacturers to support larger-scale production across Asia and the United States. Company information is available at https://amprius.com.

Amprius alliance, lease and manufacturing milestones
Dated changes to Amprius manufacturing arrangements

Earlier expansion in South Korea

Amprius had expanded its Korea Battery Alliance on Dec 15, 2025, adding three contract manufacturers following a launch event in Daejeon, South Korea. The consortium brings together companies working on materials, components and production equipment across the lithium-ion battery value chain.

The expanded contract manufacturing network already exceeded 2 gigawatt-hours of global capacity at that December announcement. Alliance discussions covered production coordination, supplier integration and near-term execution plans. The network figure covers global manufacturing capacity, rather than production at Nanotech's California facility alone.

Colorado lease termination

Separately, Amprius entered a lease termination agreement with Starboard Platform Brighton JV, LLC on Jan 30, 2026. It covered approximately 774,155 rentable square feet at 4353 East Bromley Lane in Brighton, Colorado. The termination took effect on Jan 31, 2026, with a required $20 million termination fee.

The property's lease had a 15-year term beginning in June 2024. Base rent was approximately $300,000, with about $190,000 in additional rent for operating expenses, insurance and real estate taxes. The termination agreement provided for the landlord to return a $1.2 million security deposit held as a letter of credit by Feb 5, 2026.
