Arclin plans Nomex paper expansion in Asturias

Arclin plans a multimillion-dollar expansion at its Asturias facility in Spain, increasing Nomex floc capacity and adding Nomex paper production capabilities. Construction is expected to finish by the end of 2027, followed by full commissioning in early 2028.

The Asturias site has belonged to the Nomex manufacturing network since 1993. Following the project, it is intended to become one of four facilities in Arclin’s global Nomex paper production network.

Planned supply expansion

Arclin reports record Nomex paper volumes in 2026 and expects supply to grow again in 2027. Its chief executive, Bradley Bolduc, expects the Asturias investment to strengthen the company’s ability to serve expanding industrial markets.

The heat-resistant material serves applications including:

Aircraft and electric vehicles;
Power generation and electricity-grid infrastructure;
Defence and other industrial uses.

Aramids manufacturing network

Arclin completed its acquisition of DuPont’s Aramids business on Apr 1, 2026, taking ownership of the Kevlar and Nomex brands. The approximately $1.8 billion transaction covered the broader Aramids business, including established manufacturing operations in Europe and Asia.

Around 1,800 employees worldwide joined Arclin through the acquisition. President Mark Glaspey identified operational continuity as an immediate priority for those operations, alongside investment in manufacturing capabilities and innovation to support their longer-term development.

Aramids business unit president Matt Reinhardt expects the combination of the team’s fibre-technology expertise and Arclin’s investment to support the development of protective materials. The acquired brands serve aerospace, electrical infrastructure, electric vehicles, personal protection and defence customers.
