Ural Automobile Plant has started construction of a new foundry complex in Miass, Chelyabinsk Region. The 9.5-billion-ruble project includes a 46,000-square-meter shop designed to produce up to 45,000 tonnes of iron castings annually. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027.

The Industrial Development Fund has provided a five-billion-ruble preferential loan for the project. The financing will support purchases of production equipment for the new shop.

Planned equipment purchases

  • Automatic molding lines;
  • Induction melting complexes;
  • Cleaning units and abrasive-processing machines.

Old foundry buildings have been dismantled, design work is complete and contractor agreements are signed. CEO Pavel Yakovlev plans to supply casting blanks for localized axle parts, meet Ural’s own iron-casting requirements and serve outside customers.

Financing the new casting capacity

Ural and VEB.RF signed a 2.6-billion-ruble credit agreement for the foundry project in December 2024. The proposed full-cycle operation will produce medium and small iron castings for key truck systems and components for other engineering enterprises. At that stage, existing capacity was insufficient to support the vehicle volumes envisaged by Ural’s product strategy.

The manufacturer had also received preferential Industrial Development Fund loans totaling 7.2 billion rubles for component projects, including drive axles and front axles.

A construction agreement at Innoprom

The foundry agreement was signed at the Innoprom-2025 exhibition in July. The signatories were Ural CEO Pavel Yakovlev, UKSKh director Evgeny Somin and Sui Donyan, deputy director of China’s CM Peace (Dalian) Limited. The agreement concerned construction of the new shop on the automobile plant’s territory.

The project is supported by the Industrial Development Fund and VEB.RF. Chelyabinsk Region Governor Alexei Teksler expects the investment to improve the plant’s production efficiency and support automotive import substitution. The planned foundry is intended to complete the manufacturing cycle for axles within the plant.
