An East Asian agreement

Segezha Group signed a cooperation agreement in Moscow on March 20, 2026, following its first contract to supply Segezha-LNG plywood for seven container ships. Shipments to the East Asian partner are planned to begin in 2026.

The plywood will serve the fuel systems of vessels powered by liquefied natural gas. Segezha has not disclosed the partner's name or the supply volume. The agreement concerns LNG-fuelled container ships, rather than seven vessels carrying LNG as cargo.

Segezha-LNG plywood has two shipbuilding applications:

  • cryogenic tanks aboard LNG carriers;
  • fuel tanks aboard commercial vessels using LNG.

Group President Kirill Arsentyev views the agreement as access to a strategically important shipbuilding market. He said export approval followed extensive testing and validation of the group's LNG-grade plywood. Segezha estimates worldwide shipbuilding demand for LNG-grade plywood at tens of thousands of cubic metres annually. Earlier material certification

Segezha's tanker plywood received certificates in 2022 for use in membrane-type insulation panels for LNG transportation and storage tanks, according to the company's September 2023 statement. The products were manufactured at Vyatka Plywood Mill in the Kirov region.

The certification covered insulation-panel elements for GTT technologies: NO96, NO96 L03 and L03+, Mark III, GST and NO96 Super+. GTT is the French engineering company Gaztransport & Technigaz.

Shipbuilders use tanker plywood to form insulating boxes filled with perlite and glass wool. The plywood also serves in connecting elements of cargo containment systems inside tanks. Dmitry Beresnev, then head of the Plywood and Slabs Division, said the plywood withstands loads associated with LNG transportation at low negative temperatures.

In September 2023, Segezha was supplying the material only for export, with China taking the largest share. Beresnev expressed readiness to supply a domestic LNG tanker fleet as well. Southeast Asian shipyards and membrane-insulation manufacturers were also showing interest in the product.
