Geropharm plans to start supplying three additional export markets in 2025. Chief executive Pyotr Rodionov outlined the target at the Russian Pharmaceutical Forum in St. Petersburg on May 14. The manufacturer, based in Russia, already exports medicines to 14 countries.

Rodionov withheld the proposed destinations while registration was under way, saying the company would identify them after marketing authorisations. Geropharm also intends to broaden its portfolio in existing markets. Its current export regions include North Africa and Latin America. Rodionov anticipated export-support measures being discussed within the Pharma-2030 programme. The three-market target remains a plan for the year.

Existing partnerships and registration work

Cuban approvals

Geropharm separately discussed cooperation with Cuba during President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez’s visit to its Pushkin plant on May 6. Five of its insulin products were authorised in the country and three further authorisations were pending, Rodionov said. These were approvals within an existing partnership, separate from the undisclosed new export destinations.

The company had received good manufacturing practice certificates from Cuban regulator CECMED in 2022. Geropharm described itself as the first Russian company with insulin analogues authorised in Cuba. Díaz-Canel expressed interest in extending cooperation to joint development of medicines. Rodionov said Geropharm wanted to expand its work with Cuban partners and supply insulin products to local patients.

Venezuelan localisation plans

Rodionov met President Nicolás Maduro at Smolny before the export announcement, discussing pharmaceutical cooperation with Venezuela. Geropharm discussed prospective local production, medicine supplies and professional education on May 12. The company intended to localise recombinant insulin production at Espromed Bio’s facilities.

  • More than three million insulin vials at the facility’s estimated output, contingent on Venezuelan needs.
  • More than 100 new jobs expected from the localisation project.
  • A stated national requirement exceeding 1.7 million insulin packs in 2025.

The planned Espromed Bio output was expressed in vials, while the stated 2025 requirement was in packs.

Rodionov said the company was prepared to supply the required products, which included recombinant insulins and analogues. Geropharm also organised patient education with support from Venezuela’s health ministry. More than 300 healthcare professionals participated in a training course launched in 2024.

Manufacturing base

Geropharm launched a full-cycle human insulin plant in the Moscow Region in October 2013 and an insulin active-ingredient enterprise in St. Petersburg in late 2018. Its research centre develops diabetes medicines, including analogue insulin, alongside neurological, ophthalmological and urological products.
